Washington, D.C. – Following the Federal Trade Commission’s proposed policy statement on repair restrictions imposed by manufacturers and sellers, Re:Create issued the following statement in support:
“Today’s Federal Trade Commission vote to expand repair options is a proper and significant step in the right direction on copyright abuse and will widely improve the consumer experience. As stated in the FTC’s report to Congress, there is little evidence supporting manufacturers’ justifications for repair restrictions, as they do more harm than good and hinder productivity for consumers. We applaud the agency for its quick action on the matter and look forward to seeing the benefits this expansion of right-to-repair will provide to consumers, innovators, researchers and others,” said Re:Create Executive Director Joshua Lamel.
