WASHINGTON, D.C. – Re:Create announced today that Mozilla Foundation, a global nonprofit with the mission of keeping the internet as a public resource that is open and accessible to all, has joined as its newest member.
“We are thrilled to have Mozilla Foundation, a seasoned advocate and unique voice for a free and an open internet, join Re:Create in our mission to support the balanced copyright framework that has been the backbone of a robust internet for decades,” said Re:Create Executive Director Brandon Butler. “Mozilla Foundation has a deep commitment to fostering an internet that is open for everyone to use, and they will be a valuable voice in our coalition.”
“We are dedicated to ensuring the internet remains a force for good, a vibrant entity that is open and accessible for all,” said Ziyaad Bhorat, Vice President, Imagination & Strategic Growth at Mozilla Foundation. “AI has made intellectual property law very exciting, in the way that a fire drill is exciting. We figured someone should actually find the exits, and Re:Create is how we do that. As a member of Re:Create, Mozilla joins a coalition of creators, advocates, and institutions who have noticed the smoke and who are working to ensure copyright remains a foundation for creativity.”
Through initiatives like Copyforward, a convening with artists, filmmakers, and legal experts examining AI and intellectual property, and Hollywood’s 8 Rules for AI, a blueprint developed with 91 creators across the industry, Mozilla Foundation has brought together the people most affected by emerging technology to ensure the frameworks we build today protect everyone’s freedom to create. These commitments are anchored by the Mozilla Public License, a longstanding foundation for open-source collaboration.
